Masami Nishida, President of Shougetsudo and Executive Director of the Kumano Brush Cooperative, received the Distinguished Service Award from the Chugoku Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in the 2012 Chugoku Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry Director-General’s Awards for Distinguished Workers in the Traditional Craft Industry.
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has designated every November as Traditional Crafts Month. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has designated November of each year as Traditional Crafts Month, and awards are given to executives of production area associations, successors of production areas, and those who have devoted themselves to the promotion of the traditional crafts industry and whose achievements are extremely remarkable, and who have contributed to the penetration of traditional crafts into the lives of the public.

Reason for Award

In April 2006, as head of the Successor Training Subcommittee of the Kumano Town Employment Promotion Project (a project commissioned by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare), he contributed to the Kumano Brush Meister School, which was established to train successors and pass on technical skills to future generations.
